It's underway! Toronto's Roncesvalles is under reconstruction. Roncesvalles Renewed is a group of residents, business owners, politicians, city planners, and transportation officials working together.
Our key priority is to ensure that plans include the condition necessary for trees to flourish. We are also working to create better sidewalks, beautiful public spaces. And please buy and dine locally while the street is being torn up, to show your support for a great street and help our businesses get through the Dig.

What it was really about and why your comments are needed?
The March 23 Public Open House Meeting held at Howard Public School, was part of the provincial Environmental Assessment (EA) process, whose purpose is mainly and merely to report on the environmental impact of permanently making Roncesvalles a two-lane road, from a four-lane road. Given that it currently operates as a two-laner for the most part, there would be little impact, if any. Once the EA process is completed this spring, the City will have the authority to consider various design options, such as making the parking lanes permanent, adding bumpouts or bike lanes, or none of the above.
Unfortunately, there was much confusion about what was presented and why some of the finer details were left out. Here we provide clarification of the key issues and opportunities for discussion. The City needs feedback from the community.

From City Councillor Gord Perks:
I apologize for the late notice. But staff have only confirmed today that they will proceed with drilling boreholes within the track allowance this weekend on Roncesvalles. Please see theCity of Toronto Public Notice for further information.
As communicated in previous emails Technical Services needs to take some soil samples especially in the sewer line and to do so they will have to drill holes in the road. Each hole takes 1.5hrs and they estimate that 10 - 15 samples are needed. The borehole locations are as follows: Queen, Grafton, Marion, Galley, Garden, Wright, Constance, Grenadier, Geoffrey, Fermanagh, Neepawa, Howard Pk. Ritchie and Boustead.

To the Roncesvalles community,
Gerard Kennedy's motion to parliament last Tuesday passed. The motion directs the government to distribute half of new stimulus spending using the Gas Tax Transfer spending model. Mr. Kennedy argued, with strong agreement from Mayor David Miller and Councillor Gord Perks, that this model is is far more efficient, fair and accountable than the various intergovernmental cost-sharing schemes that often bog down in red tape and jurisdictional intrigues. Mr. Kennedy's motion was strongly supported by both the Roncesvalles Village BIA and Roncesvalles Renewed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write in support of the motion!
